Surrender To His Power and Love

By the grace of God, I have not experienced personal tragedies and turmoil that I know some of you may have, and I pray that God comforts and supports you in those very difficult times. There have been times in my life, however, where things have been so overwhelming and outside my control that I just finally throw my hands up and say, “God, I don’t know how this is going to work, but please take over.”

When I do, things seem to turn out fine. Things work out, and usually it doesn’t seem so overwhelming afterward.

My challenge for myself, and for you, is to do the same when things are going well. This is really how God wants us to live. He wants us to surrender to his power, and just as importantly, to his love, trusting in him rather than ourselves. When we do, we are giving him the opportunity to demonstrate himself in our lives.

Psalm 31:19 says, “How abundant are the good things that you have stored up for those who fear you, that you bestow in the sight of all, on those who take refuge in you.”

Dear Lord, If we truly believe you had the power to create the entire universe, how can we not live in awe of you. Help us surrender our will and plans to you in our thoughts, and trust that you will demonstrate your power and love in our lives, showing us the abundant good things you promise. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Almighty

Occasionally we all have a problem that we have no idea how it can work out for the best; A situation that looks impossible to solve.

It is easy for us, Christians, to believe in our minds and in an academic way that God is all powerful, capable of doing anything. However, when things are difficult for us, especially when we have created our own problems, it is not so easy to believe in real and practical terms that God can and will resolve it for us.

At those times a great verse to remember is Psalms 46:10. He [God] says, “be still, and know that I am God….”

Solving our problems is easy for God. We don’t always know how he will do it, but we need to ask, and know, without doubt that he can.

Dear Lord, remind us of your power and help us live our lives truly knowing that you are almighty. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.

Cast Your Cares

Though it sounds so simple, when we are facing difficult, frightful, or uncertain times, whether it be a frightening medical diagnosis, loss of loved one, loss of a job, difficulty with children, or any personal struggle, remember the words of 1 Peter 5:7 “Cast all your cares on him, for he cares for you.”

We all have a tendency to think that like taking responsibility for our actions we have to carry the emotional burden of life’s challenges. However, God wants us to give him that burden.

Though things don’t always work out how we would like them. When we hand over the concern to God, who loves and cares for us, we can have peace knowing that he is in control.

Remember also Psalm 23:4, “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil; for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me.”

Dear Lord, Help us trust you and hand over our fears and concerns to you, believing and trusting in you is what you call us to do. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Your Body?

Today was a beautiful day where I live; A great day for a run, walk, ride or other workout. Most of us have considered diet plans, workout plans, and vitamins at some point in our lives, Why do we do these things? To look better, to feel better, to live longer? All of which are good reasons.

One other reason we should include is written by Paul in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, where he writes, “Haven’t you yet learned that your body is the home of the Holy Spirit God gave you, and that he lives within you? Your own body does not belong to you. For God has bought you with a great price. So use every part of your body to give glory back to God because he owns it.” TLB

So when we are thinking about what we do with our bodies, we should remember that our body is God’s body, and we should treat it with that in mind.

Dear Lord, thank you that we live in a time where we have so much opportunity to keep our bodies fit and healthy. Help use to use our bodies in ways that bring honor and glory to you. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Faith Plus Action

James writes in James 2:20 that, “Faith without works is dead.” This passage is often discussed as an argument to protestant perspectives that Grace alone through faith is all we need for Salvation. Fortunately, my message today is not to discuss this issue, but to look at this passage a little differently.

Tony Robbins, the popular personal development author, speaker, and coach says in his book. “Never leave the scene of a decision without taking a specific action toward it’s accomplishment.”

You might ask what these two things have in common.

Jesus says in Matthew 17:20, “if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”

Similar to the Tony Robbins perspective on decisions, having faith that God will take care of us, and answer our prayers, is great, but he expects us to take action that shows we expect he will do so. We could kind of think of it like a modified version of the Tony Robbins quote, “Never have Faith without taking action that demonstrates it.”

In every Christian’s success we see them putting their faith in God, then taking the step forward in that faith. Their success happens when they take that first step demonstrating their faith.

Proverbs 16:3 says, “Commit your actions to the Lord, and your plans will succeed.” Key word, “actions.”

Dear Lord, we believe in our hearts that you care and are there for us. Help us to show our belief by taking actions that rely on your involvement in our lives. in Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
